'Bonanza' jumped the shark when Little Joe got married. His wife was NEVER established in the storyline of the series: she was simply introduced, married, and killed off all in one episode. It was the first episode of the season, and the producers really publicised Little Joe's wedding as if it were a major turning-point in the continuity of the series. One week later, Little Joe was single again, and the series never made another reference to his wife. This is flat-out contempt for the audience.
