Alan Grimm Died

One time I was at a piece of shit club named Rocky's with a piece of shit band named OTTO (but it wasn't Jack Brumby's fault at all, bless his heart) and Alan Grimm was sitting there shooting the shit with me while I was sound checking my amp.
Suddenly he said, "Kurt, you're the best musician in San Antonio." I said "Thanks, Alan, what brought that on?" He said, "I've always thought that." I said, "Thank you, that's very sweet of you to say that." That's the last time I saw him.
What he said kind of threw me for a loop because I didn't think he liked my music, in fact, I seem to remember he clarified he DIDN'T care for my old band Quartett, or our music, but he said he respected me anyway because he knew it took musicianship to do it.
I really liked that, I can't really begin to agree with him, but at least he had the wild idea and told me. And now he's dead.
Watch out, thinking highly of me can lead to you being dead sometimes. I think Stash told me some other guy said that one time, the guy at Apple Records, I think. Is he alive?
I will miss Alan Grimm. I barely knew him at all. What a thing to say to little ol' me. I would never expect that from a KEXL DJ, unless it was Tony Dale, of course. Tony was (is) a very sweet guy, too. As was (is) Michael Boykin and Debbie Jecker.
I've known Debbie since she was 16 years old and we were both in high school. I started recording in this studio in early 1973, and Debbie and her husband Jerry Mothershed played percussion on the 3rd or 4th song I recorded here, I believe it was "A Truckload Of Peaches", or "Perch Of The Clear Monkeys". I seem to remember she seemed scared shitless of that little red light, but I know she wanted to do it. Maybe it was just because I was scared shitless? She became a DJ shortly after that. I wonder if she remembers that night?
