in 1967 i was 15 years old and this album came out called are you experienced? by the jimi hendrix experience. it just made so much sense to me, the sound of it, the philosophy of it... the DRUGS of it.

it started there, rose thru axis: bold as love, and sort of crested at the point of electric ladyland. it gets no better than that.

but it definitely gets as good, band of gypsys, cry of love, and rainbow bridge. i like on cry of love where he says, hello my friend. he always made me feel like he was my friend. i was just a 15 year old kid with an intense identification with this rock n roll star. but jimi wasn't fake... he had the music to back it up.

when i hear him now, as the guitar goes flying by i say, there goes my friend.
