Anger and humor are like the left and right arm. They compliment each other. Anger empowers the poor to declare their uncompromising opposition to oppression and humor prevents them from being consumed by their fury. Justice-loving people must never stop getting mad at oppression. Oppression is not necessary; we don't have to put up with it. And anyone who condones it should be required to experience our righteous indignation. To fight for life is to experience the joy of life. To laugh, to have fun, is to bear witness to life against death. Freedom fighters are fun-loving people. Therefore, let us laugh, let us shout for joy, not as an indication that we are no longer angry but rather as a sign we have just begun to fight. ------ a direct quote from "Martin & Malcolm & America: A Dream Or A Nightmare?" by James H.
