Bail denied for pair held Two Davie men accused of gunning down three Waffle House employees were denied bail on Wednesday and will stay behind bars until their trial on murder charges. ::: Jimmy Mickel, 32, and Gerhard Hojan, 26, made brief appearances in court on Wednesday. Each faces two counts of murder, one count of attempted murder and armed robbery. A grand jury will decide whether to charge them with first-degree murder, which carries a possible death sentence. ::: Police said the pair robbed the Waffle House restaurant in Davie on Monday, then forced the three employees into a freezer, shooting each in the head. ::: Willy Absolu, 29, of Plantation, and Christina Delarosa, 16, of Davie, died instantly. ::: A third employee, Barbara Nunn, was also shot in the head but escaped to a gas station and called police. She remains at Memorial Regional Hospital, where officials would not comment on her condition. ::: Nunn told police that Hojan ordered the employees into the freezer, forced them to their knees and shot them in the head, the Davie police report said. ::: In his confession, Mickel told police that he heard "several thumps" from the freezer before Hojan said, "I took care of it." ::: Mickel was arrested at his trailer in Davie, and Lee County detectives caught Hojan near his parents' home in Fort Myers. ::: He will be returned to Broward County, probably this week, for trial. ::: Hojan's mother, Pauline, told the Fort Myers News-Press that she is stunned by the charges. ::: "I don't think my son could do that, but then, that's a mother's point of view," she said. |
